Long before pioneers settled in North Shuswap in 1895, the place was home to the First Nations people. Logging, fruit growing, and trapping are the vocations the first settlers do to make their livelihood. Water offered transportation, with a ferry plying the waters between Scotch Creek and Sorrento from 1914 to 1956, until a bridge was built at Squilax in 1930. Small trails served as tracks among homesteads and the lake. Eventually, these trails were widened, and a gravel road was built connecting Anglemont and Scotch Creek. The street became paved in the 1960s.
The economic stronghold of North Shuswap is tourism. Also, wood products, agriculture, forestry and service industries are some other sources of the economy.
