Shuswap Lake, British Columbia

British Columbia has classy cities, striking scenery, and a diverse geography that gives something for everyone.

With mountains, rivers, seashores, woodlands, and lakes, there are adventures for everybody. Regardless of whether climbing, mountaineering, boating, strolling along trails, swimming in warm lakes, or lazing on the seaside, there are activities to swimsuit each taste.

BC has a few of the many cosmopolitan cities in Canada. It has international art centers, nice shopping centers and fantastic dining.

British Columbia is bounded by the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains in the west coast of Canada. Due to its mild local weather, BC's rocky regions are famous for their world-class skiing conditions. In year 2010, the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games pulled in several guests to this gold medal location.

The area which is sustained by a resource-based financial system, has major ports that permit for global trade. Railways and Transcontinental highways stop here. Tourism and out of doors amusement contribute to the economic system, although logging, mining and some other types of resource mining are the economic mainstay. Because of the delicate conditions BC's valleys, particularly the Fraser and Okanagan Valleys, are agriculturally rich, although less than 5% of the states' land is arable. Seventy-five percent of the region is mountainous, while forest takes sixty percent.

The current southern border of the district was established by the 1846 Oregon Treaty, although lands as far south as California are tied to its history. British Columbia is surrounded on the east by the county of Alberta, on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the northwest by the State of Alaska, and on the north by the Norwest Territories and the Yukon. By the south the region is bordered by the American regions of Washington, Montana and Idaho .

The coastline in BC's Pacific is greater than 27,000 kilometers (17,000 mi) long. There are rocky fjords and around 6,000 largely-uninhabited islands. The entire land area of the region is 944,735 sq. kilometers (364,800 sq mi). Vancouver is British Columbia's principal city by population. Vancouver is situated on the southwest corner of the mainland, cited as the Lower Mainland. Victoria is BC's capital city, located on southeastern Vancouver Island.

A few of BC's awesome and famous scenery is located where the Inside Passage plus the Coast Mountains creates multiple inlets. The ecotourism and outdoor adventure business blossom here.

One of BC's leading points of interest are the Okanagan Valley's vineyards. They also make Cider here. The Fraser Valley plus Vancouver Island's Cowichan Valley also have wine-growing areas. Renowned for their warm climate, Kamloops, Penticton, and the small towns of Osoyoos and Oliver boast a number of the warmest and longest summer seasons in the country. The Fraser Canyon cities of Lytton and Lillooet are even hotter; shade temperatures there can exceed 40 °C (104 °F) on summer days and have the benefit of low humidity.

The mainland conditions ranges from boreal forest and sub-arctic prairie in the Northern Interior, to desert and semi-arid plateau, to the range and canyon districts of the Southern and Central Interior. Striking temperate rainforest covers much of the rest of the coast and the western side of Vancouver Island.

The inland climate is less moderate because of the distance from the Pacific Ocean. Short but cold winters with serious but rare snowfalls are common in a few Southern Interior valleys. On the the southern part of the Central Interior, the Cariboo, latitude and altitude give rise to colder winters, but the intensity and length of the cold season is mostly less than at comparable latitudes elsewhere in Canada. The northern two-thirds of the county are largely mountainous and include fewer individuals and less development. The exclusion is the Peace River District, east of the Rockies. This district located on the province's northeast forms side of the Canadian Prairies.
